May 2005

Well a new month has started.  April was busy and the next few months will be at the same pace.  Laurianne continues to prepare for the Miss New York Competition this summer.

Laurianne and I traveled to New Hampshire at the end of April.  We were fortunate to see Audra Paquette, a former Miss Finger Lakes, be named Miss New Hampshire 2005.  The production was entertaining and it was enjoyable to see such a well-done state competition.

Congratulations to the recently crowned New York's Outstanding Teenager, Amanda Lee Alicia.  Amanda is a 16 year old from Staten Island who will represent New York in the inaugural America’s Outstanding Teenager Competition in Orlando this August.  Amanda Price, Miss Oswego County 2002 & 2004 was a co-emcee of the competition and from what I understand was a wonderful hostess.

We will be holding the Oswego County Outstanding Teen Competition this fall.  The winner of the competition will be our representative in next year’s New York Outstanding Teen Pageant.  Look for more information soon on this new local competition.

We have postponed our Little Miss Oswego County Talent Pageant due to a scheduling conflict.  We are hoping to have a new date set soon.  When it is rescheduled, we will contact all and let you know when it will take place.

The Miss Florida Keys competition was held in April. Amanda was in the Keys at the time and was able to stop by and see Sylvia.  The new Miss Florida Keys is Sarah Pachter.  Sarah is a singer who will be competing for Miss Florida at the same time as Miss New York.

This month brings the Miss New York State Gala on May 20th in Watertown.  This year the Gala is a Casino Night.  Information is available on the New York State website, or you can access it though our links section.  Tickets are $15.00 for a single person, $25.00 for a couple.

In addition, workshop for Miss New York is on Saturday May 21st.  We will be placing our ticket order at that time.  Ticket information for Miss New York State is as follows:

Thursday June 30th First Preliminary Competition                      $15.00

Friday July 1st Second Preliminary Competition                         $15.00

Saturday July 3rd Final Competition                                              $35.00

            Includes After Glow Reception

Entire Package(tickets to all competitions)                                 $60.00

In addition, there are events open to all during the week.  They are:

Thursday June 30th                   Spaghetti Dinner                           $7.00

Friday July 1st                           1000 Island Boat Tour                 $10.00

Friday July 1st                           Family Style Dinner                     $12.00

Saturday July 2nd                      Judges Seminar                            $5.00

If you wish to attend with the Miss Oswego County cheering section, please contact me at tdenely@hotmail.com.  I will need your information and payment by Wednesday May 18th in order for us to complete the ticket order.

That's all for now.  Watch the website and this column for news.  If you
have any questions, comments or would like more information about the
program or Laurianne, please feel free to contact me at tdenely@hotmail.com.

April 2005

This is the first in a new feature to our website of my new column "Time
with Thom".
I will be using this space as a means of sending information
about our program and the news surrounding it.

First, congratulations to all the Miss New York local titleholders this
year.  Having the opportunity to have seen or met many, I think it can be
said that this year has provided the state with a well rounded group of
young women who we will have the opportunity to see compete for Miss New York at the end of June and into July. Laurianne is working hard on her preparation, as I am sure everyone else is.  We have logged more miles in the last week that you could imagine and there are more to come.

We are planning our Little Miss Oswego County Talent Pageant to be held in May.  This is a fundraiser for our local program as well as an opportunity to promote the program to the community.  It also works to develop future contestants.  Laurianne was our first Little Miss Talent winner, and last year's
Teen Miss Oswego County was Sabrina Rutledge, the 1st RU at Miss Thousand Islands this year. Checkout the website for information about dates and times for this competition.

Jack Carr is working hard to get the first ever New York Outstanding Teen
Pageant
together for the end of April.  The winner of this competition will
have the opportunity to compete for
America's Outstanding Teen in Orlando, Florida this August.  Interested young women can link through to the paperwork on our links page.

Our pageant in the south, Miss Florida Keys is to be held April 3rd.  If you
are planning to be in
Florida at that time, stop by and see Sylvia and watch the competition. Say hi to her for me as well.

That's all for now.  Watch the website and this column for news.  If you
have any questions, comments or would like more information about the
program or Laurianne, please feel free to contact me at tdenely@hotmail.com.

June 2005

Well June has arrived after a spectacular May!

This past month saw Laurianne at the Miss New York Gala, followed by workshop and the Armed Forces Parade on Saturday.  The Gala was a fun time for all, with games of chance.

On Saturday at workshop all of this year’s contestants for Miss New York appeared in the Armed Forces Day Parade in Watertown honoring the men and women of our military.  This was particularly special for Laurianne as her older brother Jason is currently serving in South Korea with the US Army.

Later in the day, the contestants chose both their roommates for the week and their contestant number.

Laurianne will be rooming with Kim Ferdinando, Miss Staten Island.  Kim competed with Laurianne for Miss New York in 2003.  She is a dancer who’s platform is Special Olympics.

Laurianne selected contestant number 10 in Group A.  On Thursday June 30th, she will have her interview in the morning and during that night’s preliminary, will compete onstage in Swimsuit, Casual Wear and Onstage Question.  On Friday July 1st, during the second preliminary, Laurianne will compete in Talent and Evening Wear.  During each competition, she is the last contestant of her group.

The push is on for the remainder of the month as Laurianne continues her preparation for Miss New York.  We have wardrobe fittings, interview preparation and some shopping still to do.  We will both be busy right up to the time she leaves for Watertown on June 26th.

On Thursday June 30th, Miss New York will be having a Spaghetti Dinner and on Friday July 1st, there is a Thousand Islands Boat Tour and Family Dinner with the contestants.  These events are open to all and if you would like to attend any of them, please let me know.  On Saturday July 2nd, there is a judge’s workshop in the morning in Watertown.  This workshop is open to all.  There are fees associated with these events.

In addition, tickets are still available to all the nights of competition for Miss New York.  If you are planning on attending, please let me know.  We may have extra seats in our area.

Welcome back to the states to Jessica Dawson.  Jessica spent this past spring semester studying abroad in London.

Congratulations as well to Danielle DeGone on her graduation from SUNY Oswego in May.  We wish her luck in beginning her career.
